BIO

Current Position(s): Freelancer Writer

Most Recent Bylines: Blavity, Shondaland and theGrio

My name is Kayla Grant. I am an aspiring cross-topic journalist with a deep passion for entertainment journalism.

Throughout my matriculation at Clark Atlanta University, I have been very fortunate to participate in amazing career-enhancing opportunities. I interviewed people, such as Spike Lee, Aisha “Picky” Cole, Dorothy Butler Gilliam and Cyntoia Brown-Long. In addition, I sat in press junkets with Cardellia Hunter, Christine Swanson, Sonay Hoffman, Joe Coscarelli and more.

In July 2019, I gained a global perspective from my study abroad trip to China. For two weeks, I traveled to two different cities (Beijing and Changchun) learning the culture, the language and visiting different historical locations.

During spring 2020, I released the first issue of my very own magazine, Diamond Magazine. This magazine was designed to highlight art and entertainment industry professionals.

Outside of the opportunities awarded to me through my university, I learned more about the world of journalism through my editorial internship position at Rolling Out magazine. In this position, I worked closely with two editors, which helped me develop greatly as a writer. During my time as an editorial intern, I published 17 articles and interviewed Isaac Carree on Facebook Live.
